That seemed to be the theme for today.
Da Nada ( no proublem)
That, and no news is good news.
That was what everyone said to me and my bunch of misfits ( i.e Coleman, Witter, Scott and Hayle)
I was pacing in Scotts office, well more like limping back and forth in Scotts office.
Her work as a parralegal meant she had to handle this. The law suit against her wack job husband.
Yeah, as it turns out Aaden woke up crying that morning and his father couldn't calm him, so what does he do?
Make funny faces?
Offer to read his son a book?
Just sit and rock him for a while?
NO! He takes him out in the drive way and runs over him with a car!!!
Nearly killing him, there isn't a word nasty enough to discribe him.
yeah, I was fuming...I swear Scott could see smoke comming out of my ears while I pased her office like a caged tiger.
Angry and ready to pounce, mame and kill my target.
She sat behind her desk and the pile of papers on this case. She was looking at the medical report given by me, Coleman and Greg. We all took shifts in watching him within the first 24 hours to make sure he stayed stable after the corrective surgery was done.
No one told me what they had to do to save my little five year old miracle, but they let me take part in the recovery process, for his benifit mostly. So for that, I was greatful. My god son felt more comfortable with me around and not a bunch of strangers, which is normal for any kid. That was what made Hayle change his mid and let me take part in this mess after all.
My pasing continued, from the big book case on the left side of her room, to the door on the right side. I looked from Scott to the floor.
Her long blonde hair was thrown up in a messy pony tail, which was odd for her, she always looked neat as a pin. Aside from the time she spent in the hosptial at my bed side.
She rubbed at her temples as she continued to read the endless pages of the four medical reports. Everything about her screamed frazled and stressed. I've never seen her look so haggered in my life.
Finally she has accpected the fact she's human, and can't have everything be perfect all the time. The last month has been a big doce of reality for her, but even I have to admit, no parent diservese this.
"For Gods sake Shannon!" She shouted, throwing her papers down to her desk. "Would you stop that! Your driving me nuts, stay still will you?" she put her face in her hands.
I stopped my constant moving about and froze in the center of the room.
"You know, I'd hate to say I told you so.."
"Then dont!" She cut me off, glaring at me with watery brown eyes.
"I warned you from the start he was no good." I said and began to walk towards her desk, my voice rising as I finished scolding her. "I told you he'd end up hurting you, which he did. I told you he was in know way a good father, which he just proved he isn't. Why didn't you listen to me?!" My hands slammed down on the desk for emphsis.
"Damn it! Brennan, shut up! You don't think I don't know this is all my fault! I could have prevented this, and yes, once again you were right! Congradulations!" She was almost in tears as she yelled at me.
Right away I felt bad about what I said, but I knew she needed to know what I thought. Even if right now she doesn't think she does...she'll be glad eventually that i told her the reality behind this little situation. But I could see how much this hurt her, so I thought maybe I could soften the blow a bit.
"You know, Scott this isn't something I wanted to be right about. I wanted you to be happy, I wanted Aaden to have a mom and dad that love him. I didn't want Aaden to suffer the abuse I did. Thats why I told you all along he was a horribal choice. I'm just sorry it took this mess for you to see I was right." She ducked her head, and started to cry.
I sighed and limped over to her and gradded a chair. I turned hers around so she was facing me and I sat down in front of her. I took both her hands and she looked at me. Tears stained her cheeks, she looked so broken and fragile, I could honestly feel her pain. I sallowed down hard, trying to choke back the tears I felt rising in me and I continued.
"But, thankfully Aaden has something I didn't. He has you, you protect him, guide him and love him. You can shelter him from his father. This was not your fault. You were with me that night, you had nothing to do with this. Aaden has at least one parent who would die for him, I had two parents who wanted nothing to do with me. You're a good mom, the only thing you did wrong was fall in love with an ass hole. And as they say, love is blind. I tried to open your eyes, but I knew you'd see in time what I saw. I'm just sorry it took this for it to become clear."
She sniffled and looked up at me. Suddenly there was a tiny smile on her face and she quitely laughed. "You're full of it, Brennan. I know deep down you can pin some of this on me. Hell, even I know that you are right, I exposed me son to someone unfit to be around children."
I shook my head, I knew she was going to pin the blame on herself some more. Yeah, she's right, some of this is her doing. But she doesn't need to face that now..I jsut wanted to be sure she aware of this. Mainly because Gerogeson (her boss and lawyer) would throw that in her face as well. I thought it should be me to say it first.
"Da Nada. You had no way of knowing he could do this. You never saw him hit Aaden, so you had no reason to assume this could happen. As far as the law is conerned at least."
She glared at me now, she let go of my hands and rolled her chair back a bit. "Thats all we've heard all day. No problem and no news is good news. When is this going to become an issue."
I sighed. "For you, it wont be a proublem. YOU DID NOTHIGN WRONG!"
I got up and walked to to the door. Before I opend it I said over my shoulder " I'm going to back to the QE2 (Queen Elizibeth's second hosptial), if you need me call my office."
When I got back to the QE2 I went into my office and found Coleman and Witter leaning on my desk talking.
Coleman nodded at me. "How is she?"
I limped into my office, shaking my head. "She's hurt. Blames herself, thinks it's all her fault."
Greg looked at me, his gaze fixed on my face. "And how are you doing?" His soft voice erked me. Why am I getting concern, nothing bad happend to me.
I gave him a puzzled look. "I'm fine."
His steel blue eyes drilled into mine. "You were crying."
Coleman laughed. "Brennan, no way. Does she even know how to cry?"
I glared at him. "Shut up Keegan" was my brilliant retort.
He went from smug to shocked in 0-60.
Greg pushed himself up from my desk and warpped me in his arms. He held me close, stroking my hair. For a moment I was surpised, we never acted like this at work, ever. It was like a rule with us. After a moment all the angry and hurt feelings I felt washed away and all I could feel was the safty and happiness that came from beging held by him. I embraced him back and we scilently held each other.
After a while I heard Coleman clear his throat as he tried to sneek by us and get out of my office. I pulled away from Greg just enough to look Coleman in the eyes.
He sighed. "I'm sorry, I shouldn;t have made a joke. I've never heard you call me by my first name before." His sheepish grin made it hard to be angry.
"Da Nada" was all I said. He left my office with a grin and for now there is nothing else that can be done by the rest of us.

First day back.
Well I got a warm welcome back to work this morning.
I rolled myself into my office and found a note on my desk by my phone:
Hello Dr. Brennan, welcome back. Just informing you that there is a case which came in this morning, and given the resant legal scandal of yours I suggest you sit this one out. No pun intended.
Witter is working on it, he seems to have it under controll.
Signed - Dr. Gergory Hennigar
I frowned. I've been back to work exactly 5 mintues and already that damn law suit is thrown in my face.
Right, as if Hennigar never made a mistake...well whatever, he should have known I wasn't going to listen to him anyway.
So I called Witters office, but it wasn't him who answered the phone.
"Dr. Smith"
I was confused, what the hell was Matt doing answering Greg-o's phone?
"Mathew? Wheres Greg?"
He gave a short laught. "Which one, theres 3 of them you know."
Yeah, okay smart ass.
"How about Greg Witter? You know, the guy whos office you currently have taken over. Where is he?"
"Oh! Dr. Brennan! Yeah....um.. he's in the OR..I thought you'd be there with him. You know his current patient so I assumed...."
"Don't ever assume, when you assume you gamble..and we frown on that, or so I'm told. Who's his patient?"
"Um... a five year old boy. Aaden Scott"
I gulped, my heart stopped, and I froze completely. Aaden? My Aaden? I just saw him two days ago..what could have happened to him. Surely Scott would have called me to tell me...wouldn't she?
"Brennan? are you there?"
I snapped out of my stooper, shaking my head, trying to clear it.
"Yes, Dr.Smith, I am. When did this patient come in?"
"Uhh....this morning, around 3 a.m. He was in some kind of an accident"
"Okay, thank you Matt" my voice was a hushed whisper as I hung up the phone.
All I had left to is wait until I can hear about the accident and what happened.

Back....
Yeah, I know. It's been a while.
That stupid law suit caught back up with me. I've been on court on and off, which is hard enough seeing as how I just had my leg gutted not even a month ago.
Shay finally went back to work after the case was settled.
We got off, the judge sided with us, saying I was doing my job to keep that boy alive, even if it didn't work.
Yeah, thats nice, but never mind the fact I lied and cheated to issue thoes tests. I love who that stupid judge just over looked that. It sure as hell pissed off the boys' parents.
I'm still living in Gerg-o's apparment, and I don't need to babysat 24/7 either. I can walk around a bit now...so that sure makes life easier for him.
I went back to the hospital for a fallow up and who was the first doctor I saw when I got in?
Thats right, Dr. Gergory Harmin, the doctor who's nose I broke.
He gave me a death glare as I wheeled myself through the lobby into Colemans office.
"So, how the leg doing?" Coleman asked me with a smile.
"Well I can walk...."
He sighed. "Does it hurt?"
"What do you think?" I rolled my eyes.
"yeah okay, I guess you have a point. How the physcial theropy going?"
"The rehab? oh, fine."
Coleman looked up from his file and leaned on the front of his desk with a smirk on his face.
"You miss work don't you?"
My eyes got big. "Well yeah I miss work. I miss feeling useful, I miss not beging able to things on my own all the time." I sighed and looked at the floor.
"Mmhmm, well good news. Hale misses you, he wants you to come back." Coleman bent down and probed my leg wehre the injury was, tested refelxes. When he took a look at it, I saw him smile.
My brows pulled together and my heard titled to the side.
"What? What are you grinning about!?"
"I have good news for Hale and this could be good news for you to" He told me as he leaned on his desk again, throwing my file across his desk.
"Huh? What are you talking about?"
"Congrats, Brennan. You're coming back to work. The leg is fine, your healing well, better then I thought. I'll tell Hale you put you back on the pay roll."
" Oh, goody." was all I could come up with for a responce.
But inside I was thrilled!
I could come back to work!
No more reading Calvin and Hobbes all day while Greggers was at work and Shay was gone.
Now I can keep making Dr. Harmin miserable, I could under Hayle skin and drive him insane again! Life is great.
I wheeled myself out of the room with a smile on my face.
"Whats with you" Harmin barked at me.
"Good news, I'm back"
He paled a bit, and touched his nose. "What do you mean your back!?"
"I'm on the pay role again, did ya miss me?" With a grin, I wheeled around and went through thoes hospital doors for the last time as a patient.

Happy Birthday Canada!
Mood : Amused
Listing to: I kissed a girl : Katy Perry
It's canada day! AND I won my bet!
Shay (Scott) made a bet with me that I couldn't do everything I was supposed to with my rehab and resting with out grumbeling.
But I did it.
I almost went mad being complaent, and I wanted my lap top back so I had no choice.
But I have it back now, and the bet is over so I have days of sclience to make up for, watch out!
Scott was with me yesterday, because Greg got called to work, and she brought Aaden with her, that kid is like the light of my life.
Sure he's only five, but I'll be damned if he isn't the smarste five year old alive.
I was telling Scott about all these awful trends kids are faced with.
Like the Spice Girls, Pogs, Pokemon, Cell phones, Ipods and MP3 players, and I asked her how she planned to keep Aaden from falling victum to things like these when he starts school in the fall.
She has no idea, so thank god she has me.
The mian one I worry about with him is the cell phone crisis. What child needs a friggin cell phone? Seriously, who are they gonna call? Their booker? Hardly.
So I've been telling Aaden the awful side of cell phones, like the give you brain cancer.
Pogs were just idiotic pieces of cardboard, thankfully their not "in" anymore.
Spice Girls...gah... don't even get me started. Yeah, okay, they started the whole "gril power" thing, good for them. Thats nice. But gah, try as I might I just couldn't force myself to like them. And when I heard of them trying to tour again last year, I nearly poked my eyes out. I kept Aaden away from the TV for a while, he doesn't need to be exposed to that.
Pokemon is just rediculaous.
Ipods and Mp3 players are good, I have one myself, it's my life line, but I'm older. Aaden is five! He should be out playing in the mud or running around, riding his bike, old fashioned things we did as kids.
Now kids are running around with cell phones, singing some Slouja Boy mess, walking with a "gangsta lean", girls are dressing like little hoockers in traning.
Which bring me to ask, WHAT ARE YOU PARENTS THINKING!!!!!!!
You are ruining your children!
Thinking of this wants me to try and talk Scott into making Aaden live in a bubble the rest of his life and keep him out this messed up world we live in.
It's a true concern for me, Scott just likes to think that all kids are sweet and cute, and yeah they are..well most of them. But 50% of the "sweet and cute" kids will end up muggin us on the street when they get older and get money to support their drugs habbits.
Children just simply are not safe anymore, and I totally blame the parents.
But i know Aaden will turn out fine from the parenting end, Scott is a good mom, she's just to optamistic, she doesn't look at the down side of anything.
Scott is a dreamer, and I'm a realist. Thats why we're good friends, we balance each other out. She shows me her "happy go lucky" world, and I keep her down to earth with my reality checks.
Same goes for me and Greg. He doesn't see the good in much, where as I don't, but I never forget the other end of the spectrum. So when i see his point of veiw, I also show him the other side, the slightly more happy side.
I bring that into his life, which I think he is thankful for.
I know thats why me make such a great pair.
Though there are days when we just want to kill each other, because we both are stubrron. I've made stubbron-ness a way of life, I don't give in, ever. Nor does he, so we have some nasty fights, but thats good.
People who never fight are in a unhealthy realtionship, because when you lose that self control just that one time, the explosion will be enough to put Chornobyl to shame. Pent up ager is one of the most deadly wepons on the face of this earth.
We don't have that issue.
With rehab, worring about Aaden, Greg and Scott, I'm a busy person.
AND now I'm coming up with ways to get to Jason (Scott's "husband") to either step up and be a dad, or I have to figure out how to get rid of him.
Threats work nicely, I think i'll go now and think of some.
Enjoy.
